A Chance Through Sport. Sport ed educazione motoria negli istituti di reclusione, un progetto di spazi.
Living conditions in Italian prisons are a well-known social emergency. This is the result of the lack of quality of spaces, as well as of relational opportunities.
In this context, the practice of sport is considered an important resource for:
- the improvement of individual well-being
- The development of relational skills
- the contact with the reality outside the prison
Currently in Italian prisons, sports activities are extemporaneous and are organized outside of a cultural project capable of understanding sport as a resocializing and rehabilitative tool.
The research aims to define a project method to provide Italian prisons with the architectural spaces and equipment useful for the organization and conduct of motor and sports activities.
The activities are mainly intended as practices aimed at improving physical conditions and relationships between people.
The project is based on concrete experiments in case studies in the Milan area:
- First house of confinement Milan-Opera
- Second house of detention Milan-Bollate
- Beccaria" Juvenile Penal Institute.
The direct beneficiaries of the project are the people who daily inhabit the spaces of the prison, for different reasons and in different forms: inmates, Prison Police staff, civil operators of the Prison Administration; operators of the Third Sector Associations.
