Lorenzo Urbano is a research fellow at the Department of Design of the Politecnico di Milano and is part of META, an interdisciplinary network of social and humanistic studies on science and technology. He obtained in 2020 the PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", with a research thesis in medical anthropology on the moral dimension of rehabilitation from drug addiction. He is currently collaborating to the "Enhancing Responsible Research and Innovation" project, which aims to explore co-creation initiatives in scientific research and technological innovation in the field of healthcare, and to identify the bottom-up articulations of the concept of responsible research and innovation.
His research interests focus on the social and cultural components of biomedicine. In particular, on the one hand, therapeutic practices and relationships between professionals, experts and communities of patients and caregivers, in connection to the so-called policies of life; on the other hand, the processes of production of scientific knowledge on the body and on disease, and the corresponding transformations of the position and social role of the sick person.
