Designing Immersion in Art and Culture
Publication
Designing Immersion in Art and Culture. Insights from Artcast4D Project edited by Davide Spallazzo and Mauro Ceconello, published by FrancoAngeli.
The volume explores how immersive technologies are transforming artistic and cultural experiences, blending the physical and artificial worlds to create engaging environments.
The book comprehensively reviews the current literature on immersion, unpacking key theoretical concepts and ideas. It moves beyond theory to explore public installations, demonstrating how technology is transforming everyday spaces into immersive experiences. A historical perspective follows, tracing the journey of immersive technologies from their early pioneers to contemporary applications.
The volume was produced within the framework of the Dipartimenti di Eccellenza initiative, for which the Department was selected by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) with "Design for Systemic Change", a project that addresses the complex challenges of ecological and digital transitions through an integrated and experimental design approach, with the aim of developing circular and sustainable solutions.
