Used Eyeglasses Collection
World Sight Day
From October 6 to 10, 2025, Buildings B2 and B7, Bovisa Durando Campus
On the occasion of World Sight Day on October 9, 2025, promoted by the World Health Organization, the Department of Design is participating once again in the eyeglasses collection initiative in support of the Italian Lions Center for the Collection of Used Eyeglasses.
From Monday, October 6, to Friday, October 10, it will be possible to donate eyeglasses using the collection boxes placed at:
- Lab Moda, Building B2
- Vending machine area, first floor of Building B7
Both new and used eyeglasses are accepted, including prescription and sunglasses, for adults and children, provided they are in good condition. Damaged frames or loose lenses will not be collected.
The collected eyeglasses will be sent to the Lions Center headquarters (Chivasso, TO), where volunteers will carry out inspections and checks before distributing them to people in Italy and in developing countries who cannot afford to purchase them.
The used eyeglasses collection, promoted by the Vice-Rector for Sustainable Development and Impact, Alessandro Perego, and the Director General, will involve the entire Politecnico di Milano community.
This initiative combines solidarity, offering many people the chance to improve their vision through tools for care and prevention that would otherwise be inaccessible, with environmental awareness, by recovering a resource that would otherwise be discarded.
The collection contributes also to achieving four of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (https://unric.org/en/agenda-2030/): ending poverty in all its forms (Goal 1), ensuring health and well-being for all at all ages (Goal 3), promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns (Goal 12), and strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing the global partnership for sustainable development (Goal 17).
