Digital Memorial for Vittime del Dovere
Website's Project
The project Digital Memorial for the Vittime del Dovere aims to provide a digital platform to preserve and transmit the memory of the Victims of Duty, including members of the Law Enforcement, Armed Forces, Judiciary, and other public servants who lost their lives or were left disabled while combating common crime, organized crime, and terrorism.
The main objectives of the project include:
- Non-hierarchical representation of memory: Developing a platform that offers a comprehensive view of data related to each victim without organizing information based on a hierarchical scale of importance, thereby recognizing equal dignity for all stories and individuals involved.
- Managing data heterogeneity: Structuring data from diverse sources with varying characteristics, integrating it into a homogeneous and easily accessible format to ensure the usability and consistency of the information.
- Creating an evocative space for remembrance: Designing a digital environment that is not only informative but also symbolic, capable of inspiring reflection and commemoration on an emotional level. This ensures that the victims' sacrifices are respected and honored. As a digital space, it transcends physical distances, providing an accessible and inclusive portal.
- Encouraging participation: Promoting interaction and contributions from the community by allowing users to share memories, tributes, testimonies, and personal reflections, making the memorial a living and shared space where collective memory can continue to grow.
Platform Structure:
The platform is organized into a single virtual environment where the data of each victim, provided by the Victims of Duty Association through a dataset, is organized and visualized based on four different modes of representation:
- Chronological Organization: Placing the memory of the victims along a timeline, allowing users to view events in sequence and understand the temporal distribution of incidents.
- Geographical Representation: Displaying information on a map, pinpointing the location where each victim lost their life or experienced a significant event, highlighting the territorial distribution of occurrences.
- Representation by Affiliated Body: Categorizing the fallen individuals based on the law enforcement body or institution they belonged to, offering a visual overview of how many members of each organization were involved.
- Alphabetical Organization by Name: Arranging the victims alphabetically by name, like a traditional "wall of names," facilitating the search and identification of specific individuals and allowing immediate access to their data and stories.
