NSBVN – Sustainable Exhibit

Website's Project

NSBVN (Nothing Gets Thrown Away) addresses the environmental impact of temporary exhibit systems, often designed without sustainable practices. The project aims to innovate the exhibit lifecycle through circular economy strategies - such as reuse, recycling, and resource-sharing - and the creation of a digital platform to exchange and repurpose decommissioned exhibition materials.

Core Objectives

  • Rethink post-event life cycles through circular design and materials sharing.
  • Test new business and sustainability models for exhibit reuse.
  • Support sustainable event production aligned with EU green policy directives.

The project is structured through the following actions:

  • 5 funded research positions
  • 2 project animation grants
  • 2 interregional mobility grants
  • 1 storytelling campaign
  • 1 thematic seminar
  • 1 practical workshop

Innovation & Key Activities
NSBVN develops a sharing platform for exhibit infrastructures (furniture, displays, materials) and educational resources in the eco-exhibit field. Collaboration with MU‑MAC (Cimbali Group) has led to the implementation of material reuse and prototyping of sustainable exhibition components.

Expected Outcomes

  • Dramatic reduction of exhibit waste and resource consumption.
  • Deployment of scalable best practices across exhibition contexts.
  • Education and training of professionals in sustainable exhibit design.

NSBVN mobilizes a wide group of partners, including museums, cultural institutions, sector associations, and regional bodies. Key participants include: MU‑MAC (Museo dellaMacchina del Caffè), Fondazione MUSIL Brescia, Musei Civici di Vigevano, Triennale di Milano, ICOM Milano, and the IUAV–Politecnico research cluster.

The project coordinator is Davide Crippa (IUAV), while Barbara Di Prete is the coordinator for the Department of Design.
