Artcast4D aims to combine art and immersive technology to enable people to interact with culture and unleash creativity. It is a three-year project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, in which the Politecnico di Milano and 10 other European partners are working with artists, cultural organisations, creative companies, museums, cities and local authorities to develop new immersive experiences in public spaces.

Immersive technologies help to enhance the breadth, depth and intensity of artistic performances and visitor experiences in public spaces, art and cultural institutions. However, such technologies are currently neither readily available nor accessible to all. Artcast4D aims to develop an open source solution based on the proven real-time software 2D/3D AAASeed. The innovation of the project, based on both theoretical and experimental research, lies in the ability to create immersive environments in open spaces with a minimally invasive projection technology by designing interactive applications with motion and crowd sensing capabilities based on available open source solutions.

The project will contribute to the development of the potential of the cultural and creative industries and facilitate the containment of design and development costs by enabling the creation of non-invasive, immersive and interactive user experiences, integrating from the outset online impact assessment and measurement techniques.

The Artcast 4D technology will be tested in 4 pilot projects in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Hounslow, Valencia and Athens, each focusing on different themes and experiences and involving creative and industrial partners as well as civil society.
