Api, glicini, cemento

Eight debates on urban biodiversity seen through the web

February 21, 2024, 6:30 pm, MEET Digital Culture Center, Viale Vittorio Veneto, 2, Milano

On February 21st, MEET will host the opening of the exhibition "Api, glicini, cemento", which is the result of the research carried out at the Department of Design by more than 50 students of the Communication Design course, under the guidance of the teachers of the DensityDesign Lab.

The exhibition, promoted by the National Biodiversity Future Center and coordinated by Maria Chiara Pastore of the Politecnico di Milano and Massimo Labra of the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, stems from the need to promote urban biodiversity, especially in a context of increasing urbanization.

"Api, glicini, cemento" explores eight hyper-local debates in Milan, generated by biodiversity protection policies and urban interventions that question the relationship between urban change and ecosystem conservation.

Using the web as an analytical tool, the students reinterpreted key fragments of these debates and transformed them into installations to provide a comprehensive view of each issue. The result is fragmented and sometimes contradictory narratives that allow us to reflect on the growing importance of biodiversity in our lives and the key role of digital platforms in mediating these discussions.

The exhibition can be visited from February 21 to March 3, 2024.
